Ramble Strip

There's no stripping. (Sorry.) But there's rambling, usually in the area of science, politics, pop culture, signs that are irritatingly misspelled, and religion, or anything that happens to be on my mind at the time. I post on study breaks, so that I don't go insane. Insaaaaaaaane!

Creepy Judd Nelson is so creepily creepy.

My boyfriend and I visited some friends in Morgantown (at WVU) a few weekends ago, and I had the most horrible insomnia because on Friday night, I got sucked into that made-for-USA movie Cabin by the Lake, and since it didn't come on until 1AM, I was finishing it at 3AM by myself.

So then, I couldn't sleep, because I wanted to be awake when Judd Nelson showed up to put me in his creepy room and let me write on his creepy wall and look at me with his creepy eyes and then drop me in the creepy lake to join his creepy "garden". Cree. Pee. The very idea gives me the shivers.

I knew it was going to happen, because when you watch a horror movie (shush, it was horror to me) your odds of succumbing to the same fate as the poor victims just skyrocket. I mean, according to scientists that is totally true. Of course, the aforementioned "scientists" includes me, and there just has to be another scientist somewhere who is easily startled. Toast popping up results in instantaneous doubling of pulse rate. And don't get me started on those "peel until the can explodes" biscuits and cinnamon rolls and such. *shudder*

Aaaaand ... I'm off on a tangent about scary bread products. Where was I? Oh yes. Remind me not to tailgate Judd Nelson. And if I do, don't check on his show dogs! Never check on his show dogs! Because the dogs? Are actually a piece of that police tape stuff, except it says, "I'm the guy your mother warned you about." And tape doesn't bark.

Cuuuuuuute.

Isn't he cute? I love to take pictures ... especially of kids, because they're so natural and carefree and innocent and beautiful. This little guy is my favorite subject, and this is my new favorite picture I've taken of him.

Oh my goodness, I'm so ashamed of my generation right now. I'm listening to Sean Hannity (my boss leaves the radio on Talk Radio, and some of these guys catch my interest so I wind up listening even when he's not here. Heh.) Anyway, he's doing a "man on the street" segment with people who are in New York, protesting outside of MTV studios. (They're protesting the Republican Convention, not MTV. Just in case that wasn't clear, I thought I should edit.) :-) First of all, most of them don't know the name of the current Vice President. Second of all, they all go along with Hannity when he refers to Kerry's running mate as "Stu Ped". They're all, "Oh yeah, I've heard of him ..."

Scariest of all, they can't name one accomplishment of Kerry's, or his stance on one single issue. Yet they're voting for him, just because "he's not Bush." Okay, that's not very logical. There are billions of people who are not Bush, but who would make disastrous presidents. Aaaaack! If you're going to vote, at least do a few minutes of research on some of the issues, PLEASE!

I ran across On the Issues, and found it to be a fairly exhaustive resource if you want to know a candidate's record and/or stance on basically any issue.

I think it's smarter to rely on information about someone's record, as opposed to putting all faith in their campaign promises, because the past is the best predictor of the future.

Anyway, please do some of your own research before you cast a vote for Jim Kerney and Stu Ped. If you don't want to take the time for that, then remember ... Ralph Nader is ALSO not Bush. You could throw a vote his way! ;-)

Edited to add that I realize Hannity could have planted these people and staged fake "interviews" just to create good radio. I've witnessed this personally, though ... people tell me that they're voting for Kerry because he's not Bush, but that's basically all they know. So I thought I'd use Hannity's "man on the street" segment to give me a boost onto my soapbox, so I could urge people (well, at least two people, including myself! Isn't that sad?) to research the candidates' records and make their own decision about the election.

It's NUCULAR. The "s" is silent!

Well, crap. I meant to sound an alarm announcing the mini-marathon of Family Guy that was on Fox the other night, but I forgot. I suppose I could go ahead and make a threat now:

For every episode you do not watch, I shall KILL you! (To revise a favorite Stewie quote.)

Hm. I don't think belated threats have the same ooomph. Not that there would have been any ooomph anyway, considering a menacing threat here would reach all of 2 people. Including me.

I'm gonna be like everybody else.

I'm probably the 122,435, 991st person to set up one of these ... what can I say? I'm slow. I was motivated to start one because I comment occasionally on my imaginary friend Mia's site, Popgadget, and if some bored soul clicked on my name by one of the comments, they'd get a big fat error message. And that makes me almost as sad as Adrien Brody's face does. So here we are.

I don't have an interesting subject on which to focus a blog, like Mia does, so instead I plan to just make random comments as the mood strikes me. This is especially attractive lately, since I've been spending a lot of hours alone in a cleanroom (I'm a microbiologist ... it's not like I've confined myself to a cleanroom to make some kind of statement or anything. You know, "I will remain in this room containing less than than one thousand particles larger than 0.5 microns in each cubic foot of air space until people stop using the non-word irregardless!!" Nothing like that.)

As a result of all of this time alone, with only the whooshing of the filters to keep me company, I have a lot of thoughts that don't get expressed. So I'll put them here, just in case the aforementioned bored soul may be interested.

I think I've finally resigned myself to the fact that iTunes is better than Musicmatch Jukebox, IMO. I tried to remain loyal to Musicmatch, because #1, I paid for it, and #2, it seemed to be the underdog. However, my copy is constantly freezing, which is crazy annoying, and iTunes just has a better interface.

I've been using both of them a lot, because I'm finishing my Super Ultimate Ginormous Compilation of 90s music. I'll post a link to the list later. The 80s are next ... any songs that I absolutely must have? I don't remember as much of the 80s, particularly the early 80s, because I was born in 1978 so I spent the early 80s blowing out orange M&Ms that found their way up my nose, and learning to tie my shoes, and stuff like that. So yeah, if you're out there, talk to me about 80s songs.

And finally, that Exorcist: The Beginning preview makes me want to cry with horror. That is all.
